there were way bigger shockwaves than the one that alerted him. he only noticed that final one because his sister was being taken. he could have noticed the fighting earlier and sent the griffon to help and still continued cultivating so he could go help after.

Well for story and drama purposes of course. Although to be fair, he was pretty far removed underground and didn't notice anything till his sister started battling and it was enough to shake the ground.

Horay!(Sarcasm) for enemies using naive children of powerful forces as human shields, so that even if they loose in their evil deeds, the person they are slandering gains enemies via having harmed the human shield.

unless. of course. while he's killing them and about to win, the others actually work to prevent their escape, instead of just standing there watching...
